CONSTITUTION OF ROPES STUDENT COUNCIL
Article I
Name
The name of this organization will be Ropes Student Council. This organization will include Junior High Council, and Senior High Council.
Article II
Purposes
1. To promote student participation in scholarship and in school activities.
2. To provide a means for students to express their opinions.
3. To encourage students' involvement in their local, state, and national communities.
4. To promote cooperation and respect among students, administration, faculty, and staff.
Article III
Powers
Section 1.
The Student Council will have the power to,
A. Within the power of the Council, make and enforce all rules necessary for the betterment of the school.
B. Help supervise and promote the development of the extracurricular activities of the school.
C. Recommend and appoint necessary committees for the school.
D. Set up and run class and student body elections.
E. Investigate and report on matters especially referred to it by the principal, the faculty, and the student body.
Section 2.
The principal will retain veto power in all matters.
Article IV
Membership
Section 1.
Executive Officers
A. President
B. Vice-President
C. Secretary
D. Treasurer
E. Historian/Reporter
Section 2.
Qualifications of officers.
A. All executive officer candidates will have passed all classes in the preceding semester.
B. All executive officer candidates will have served honorably on Student Council.
C. The president and vice-president will be a junior or senior.
D. Senior High Council executive officer candidates will have attended, or will be planning to attend, a leadership class.
Section 3.
Grades 6-12 will each have two elected representatives.
Section 4.
No candidate for representative will have been dismissed from or quit Student Council in the previous year.
Section 5.
Requirements for Senior High work-on membership.
To be considered an associate member, a student must,
A. During the first semester, earn the number of points designated by the Executive Committee;
B. Attend a majority of all meetings during the first semester;
C. Be approved by the Executive Committee.
Article V
Elections
Section 1.
Election of Senior High Council executive officers.

C. Voting will be by secret ballot. Votes will be counted by the Council Sponsor/s.
Section 2.
Election of class officers and representatives.
Article VI
Meetings
There will be a general planning session of the Executive Committee held during summer break. Frequency and place of meetings, and provisions for special sessions will be decided by the Executive Committee during this session.
Article VII
Amending
Section 1.
Amendments to the Constitution may be proposed by a petition of 2/3 of the student body, or 2/3 of the Junior High Council, or 2/3 of the High School Council, or 2/3 of the Executive Committee.
Section 2.
The principal will have first approval.
Section 3.
A simple majority vote of the combined Council will approve a proposal.
