My name is
Danny McNabb and I am currently the
Elementary Principal at Ropes,
Texas. Before
becoming an administrator, I was chair of the mathematics department at
Ropes ISD and did a little coaching. I taught mathematics for 20 years in
Louisiana before retiring and relocating to Texas to begin a second career
in education. I began in Texas by helping to build a quality mathematics
program at Ropes ISD. I was also completing my doctorate in Curriculum &
Instruction with emphasis in mathematics education from Louisiana State
University at the time. Immediately upon completion of my Ph.D., I was asked
to consider the Elementary Principal position, which I obviously
accepted. Besides being a principal, I also teach for the University of
Phoenix in an online format and I teach classes at Wayland Baptist
University in Lubbock, TX.
I am married with 3
sons and 2 grandchildren. My wife teaches Special Education at Ropes ISD and
she is also a retiree from the State of Louisiana. My oldest son is a
graduate of TTU in Lubbock, Texas. He has a degree in MIS and works as a
computer programmer for a company in Columbus, Ohio. My middle son, Marcus,
is a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs,
Colorado with a degree in Mathematics. He has been assigned a job as
"Scientific Analyst" for the Air Force and is slated to attend Naval Post
Grad School in Monterrey, CA in August. My youngest son is only 8 years old.
He is in 2nd grade majoring in "Hot Wheels Cars" , "SpongeBob",and sports.
I really do not have much time for hobbies, but I love the LSU Tigers, go
to a rodeo occasionally, and cook (not clean).
I believe that
children learn best in an interactive learning environment where they are
active participants in the learning process as opposed to passive recipients
of knowledge. I believe that meaningful learning occurs when children are
able to construct their own meanings through a variety of learning
opportunities, and I also believe the classroom teacher is the single most
influential personality in the child’s school experience. We strive at Ropes
Elementary to provide each child with a quality education and to demonstrate
a caring attitude for every student. We are striving to maintain our status
as a “Small School with a Big Heart.”
