Classroom Management

Binder Notebook & ROPES Planner Everyday, your child will bring home his/her ROPES planner which has the citizenship in it.  You can monitor your child's behavior daily by reviewing the weekly layout in the planner.  On Tuesdays, I will send home the previous week's papers in the Weekly Folder.  Please look over your child's papers and keep them at home.  Please review the citizenship and then initial or sign in the space provided in the planner.  The ROPES planner must be brought to class each day!
Homework Periodically, I will send homework.  Homework will need to be turned in on time otherwise 20 points will be deducted from the grade on the assignment.  If an assignment is not turned in within a week, a "0" will be the grade given for that assignment.  I will also send home the science book two school nights prior to a chapter test in order to give your child time to review the unit we have been learning in class.

Discipline A discipline notebook will be kept to record student misbehavior.  If needed, a child will sign the book if they are misbehaving.  I will also sign your child's ROPES planner explaining what happened.  That is why it is important that you check the planner on a daily basis.  If the behavior still continues, I will send you a note or you will receive a phone call.  If after parental contact is done the child still continues to misbehave, then the student will be referred to the office for further consequences by the principal.  A weekly citizenship report is sent home on Tuesdays that needs to be signed and returned on Wednesdays in the weekly folder.
Before School Procedures, Tardies, Absences, and Dismissals
  • We will continue last year's school procedure before school begins in the mornings in order to ensure the safety of all Ropes children.  Any children who arrive before 7:40, Mr. McNabb will keep them by the elementary office.  Beginning at 7:40, two elementary teachers will be on duty in the hallways to monitor the kids.  When children arrive at school, they need to go to breakfast, if needed, and then go sit by their classroom door.  The two teachers will be there to monitor the students until 7:50 when all the elementary teachers will be available in their classrooms.  Your child is expected to be in our classroom no later than when the 8:05 bell rings.  If your child is later than 8:05, he/she will need to get a blue slip from the office.
  • If your child is absent from school, please send a note with him/her the next day.  School is dismissed at 3:30.
  • If you need to pick up your child before 3:30, you will need to get a white slip from the office.
Birthdays You are welcome to bring cupcakes, ice cream, or whatever is your choice to celebrate your child's birthday.  Please let me know ahead of time so I can plan for it.  If any children have a summer birthday, I like to celebrate their special day on their half-birthday.  (For example:  A June 8th birthday will be celebrated on December 8th.)
Parties & Field Trips The two second grade classes will join together to celebrate Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine's Day, and the end of school.  We will also go on several field trips throughout the school year.
