Curriculum

Reading/Language Arts:  We use the Harcourt basal reader for reading.  Students are busy everyday with a variety of literacy skills.  Each day is filled with many opportunities to read:  shared reading, poems, big books, guided reading in a small group setting, and Accelerated Reading.  One of my goals is to develop a love of reading in all children!  In language, we will focus on sentence writing and the traits of writing at first and then eventually creating paragraphs.  We teach the kids to use graphic organizers as they write in paragraph form.  We will also learn about nouns, verbs, adjectives, and pronouns.  We use the Saxon Phonics program and Harcourt for spelling and phonics.  A big part of our school day is devoted to Reading/Language Arts.
